OfficeOne AutoDateTime 2.4

Microsoft PowerPoint lets you insert the current date and time within a text box on the slides. It also gives you an option of updating it automatically. True to its word, PowerPoint does update this field automatically but only at the start of the slide show. After that the date/time value remains the same throughout the slide show. You can get around this limitation using the free AutoDateTime addin.

AutoDateTime keeps the inserted date/time up-to-date with the current system date/time. You can also configure AutoDateTime to show the time elapsed from the start of show. AutoDateTime also lets you customize the date and time display in a variety of formats.

Download

AutoDateTime is supported on Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 SP2, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003, Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and Microsoft PowerPoint 2000. Download the installation executable from here.

Installation Instructions

  • Download and save AutoDateTime24.exe.

  • Ensure that Microsoft Office PowerPoint is not running.
  • Execute AutoDateTime24.exe and follow the installation steps.
  • Start Microsoft Office PowerPoint.

Using AutoDateTime

Turning ON Automatic Date/Time Updating:

On successful installation of AutoDateTime, you will see a new option called AutoDateTime... in the Format menu. By default, the date/time updating is turned OFF to maintain compatibility with existing presentations. Select the AutoDateTime... option from the Format menu to turn it ON.

Placing the Date/Time display on the slide:

AutoDateTime updates the date place holder with the current system date/time. If you wish to place the date/time display at a different location, you will have to place the date placeholder at that location. To place the date placeholder, go to the slide master by selecting View | Master | Slide Master menu. Locate the text box that contains the Date Area text. This is the text box that AutoDateTime uses. Place it at the desired location. Close Slide Master.

Displaying the Date/Time on certain slides only:

AutoDateTime updates the "date" place holder with the current system date/time. You can turn off displaying this placeholder on certain slides. Use the following steps:

  1. Select View | Header and Footer... menu item.
  2. On the Slide tab, remove the check against Date and time box.
  3. Click Apply to All button. You have removed the date placeholder from all slides now.
  4. Switch to slide sorter view by selecting View | Slide Sorter menu item.
  5. Select all the slides on which you want the date/time to be displayed.
  6. Select View | Header and Footer... menu item.
  7. On the Slide tab, put a check against Date and time box.
  8. Click Apply button.
